Softball: Flynt Gets First College Win in Series Finale at Baptist Florida

Peyton Flynt earned her first collegiate win in the circle with help from Nicole Yi's two-run home run in the series finale at Baptist University of Florida on Saturday. Flynt held off a seventh-inning  comeback effort after Baptist scored twice to pull to within a run, and TCJ Eagles Softball won 5-4. Baptist, however, won both games in extra innings on Friday by scoers of 4-3 and 7-6.

After Baptist scored twice in the 7th on Saturday and had the tying run on first, Flynt induce a line drive at second baseman Piper Young, who made the catch to end the inning and the game to preserve the first collegiate win for the freshman pitcher.

Overall, Flynt pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 runs, but only 2 were earned. She allowed 8 singles, walked 1, and struck out 4. She had 2 perfect innings in the 2nd and 3rd. She was alo 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored and a run driven in.

Trinity started the scoring in the top of the first when Yi launched her 4th home run of the season with Young aboard via a single. Carlin Payne singled home Flynt (single) in the 3rd to make the score 3-1. In the 5th, Ashlee Shaw tripled in Yi (double), and Flynt's sacrifice fly brought home Shaw. Trinity led 5-1 at that point.

Baptist got a run in the 5th to make it 5-2 then scored two more in the 7th before Flynt and Young retired the final batter.

Shaw was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Payne was 1 for 3, and Autumbn Eady was 1 for 3 and drew a walk.

On Friday, Eady and Young both pitched complete games. In Game 1, Trinity fought back late with runs in the 6th and 7th on RBI from Kylea Duhig and Young to take the lead at 3-2. Baptist, though, tied it in the bottom of the 7th with an unearned run then won it in the 8th with an unearned run. In Game 2, Trinity led 5-0 in the 5th. Ashlee Shaw drove in 2 in the 1st, and Young, Shaw, and Cali Dunn each had RBI hits in the three innings that followed. Baptist, though, scored 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th before Elizabeth Hancock tied it in the 7th with a 2-run home run. Baptist then scored an unearned run in the 8th to win.

The Eagles have two double-headers remaining, both against NCAA Division 2 opponents, on Wednesday and Thursday, April 22 and 23. Trinity visits Albany State University at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday and Fort Valley State University at 1:00 p.m. on Thursdsay.

Trinity College of Jacksonville will host the South Region Tournament from May 4-8 at Trinity Softball Complex.
