Softball: Yi Homers, Eagles Score 8 in Final Home Game of Season

Nicole Yi went deep in Game 1, and the offense rallied twice in Game 2 as TCJ Eagles Softball played its final home games of the 2026 regular season. Trinity hosted NCAA Division 2 Edward Waters University, and after falling behind 4-0 in Game 2, they rallied to take the lead. Edward Waters, though, came back to win 15-7 after taking the opener 7-1.

Leading off the bottom of the 4th in Game 1, Yi launched a solo home run over the left-center field fence for Trinity's only run and her third bomb of the season. Kylea Duhig doubled and singled, and Carlin Payne was 2 for 4. Chesnee Isom and Alondra Galindo-Diaz also hit safely.

In Game 2, Trinity came to bat in the bottom of the 3rd trailing 6-0. The Eagles rallied for four runs, hitting the ball hard and taking advatage of a few miscues. Ashlee Shaw singled home Galindo-Diaz (leadoff walk) and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Piper Young followed with an infield single that brought in Shaw. After Yi reached on an error, Duhig and Peyton Flynt each drove in runs with base hits, and the Eagles were within 2 at 6-4. Flynt notched her first collegiate RBI with her base hit.

In the 4th, the Eagles got the first three on to load the bases. Galindo-Diaz (walk) raced home on a wild pitch. Young walked, and as the ball got away, Shaw (walk) scored, and Payne (single, stolen base) came around on an overthrow. Trinity led 7-6, but EWU ace Riley Kapparis, who pitched a complete game in the opener, entered and stopped the rally with a strikeout and a lineout.

Edward Waters then regained the lead and totaled 7 more unanswered runs the rest of the way. Kapparis was the winning pitcher in both games. Payne amd Duhig each had 2 hits for the Eagles while Shaw, Young, and Flynt all hit safely.

The Eagles will visit the South Region's Baptist University of Florida for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18. Friday's double-header starts at 6:00 p.m. EDT, and Saturday's single game begins at 12:00 noon. Trinity will then close out the regular season with double-headers at NCAA Division 2 Albany State University on April 22 and Fort Valley State University on April 23.
