Bio

John D. Jones has served as Athletic Director at Trinity College of Jacksonville since 2011 and is a member of the college’s executive leadership team. Throughout his tenure, Jones has approached athletics as a ministry platform, committed to developing student-athletes spiritually, academically, and competitively.  

Under his leadership, Trinity Athletics has grown from a single team into a thriving multi-sport department serving more than 160 student-athletes while expanding facilities, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing a Christ-centered athletic culture. 

Before transitioning fully into administration, Jones completed a distinguished 30-year collegiate basketball coaching career (22 as a head coach) across NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NCCAA levels. He retired following the 2022–23 season with more than 350 career victories, 3 Coach of the Year honors, and the highest winning percentage in Trinity men’s basketball program history (.655).  

His teams captured multiple NCCAA South Region championships, earned national tournament appearances, and reached the Final Four, all while emphasizing servant leadership, character formation, and faith integration within team culture. 

Since 2023, Jones has served on the NCCAA Board of Directors and Administrative Committee, In 2024, Trinity College was recognized as a KingChasing Institution of the Year finalist, reflecting the department’s commitment to the NCCAA vision of keeping Christ at the center of intercollegiate athletics.  

Jones’ coaching career included impactful stops at Nyack College, Geneva College — where he helped lead the 2001 NCCAA National Championship team — Winthrop University (NCAA D1 Tournament), and Liberty University. He was inducted into the Winthrop University Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024. 

Jones holds a master’s degree in Counseling from Liberty University and a bachelor’s degree from Liberty, where he was named Student of the Year. He and his wife Amy reside in Jacksonville, Florida.
